From the Bronx, parts of Yonkers, much of Queens, and parts of southern and eastern Brooklyn, MTA Bus provides service along a number of express bus lines running to downtown and midtown Manhattan as its shown in NYC express bus map. Like the local routes, these routes were also previously franchised by the NYC Department of Transportation. The current MTA Bus base fare is the same as that of the NYC Transit Authority: $2.25 for local and limited-stop service and $5.50 for express bus service, payable in coins or MetroCard only.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority operates a number of bus routes in Staten Island, NYC, United States. Some of them are the direct descendants of streetcar lines (see list of streetcar lines in Staten Island). Most of the routes run to the St. George Ferry Terminal of the Staten Island Ferry. Express buses operated by the NYC Transit Authority, or under contract by Atlantic Express, are assigned an express (X as its mentioned in NYC express bus map) prefix (one route is assigned AE), while those operated by MTA Bus are assigned multi-borough (for instance QM) prefixes.
NYC express buses usually operate between Midtown Manhattan or Lower Manhattan and the other boroughs as you can see in NYC express bus map. While most NYC express bus routes operate only during peak weekday hours, some routes (including the X1, X10, and X17 and various MTA Bus lines) run on a daily basis (the X27 and X28 run all day on weekdays), from about 5:00 AM to 1:00 AM. MCI and Prevost over-the-road coaches are used for NYC express bus service.
